The Problem ๐Ÿค”

Medical Professionals need a platform that is easy, in-expensive and flexible with their busy schedule in order to better their mental health.

Conducting Research ๐Ÿ’ก

Our goal here was to find the perfect interview candidates in order to understand our users' struggles. We created a screener survey of 92 participants to find interview candidates. From those surveyed, we were able to interview a variety of medical professionals. Including: A surgeon, Physician Resident, Physician Assistant, Physician, Pediatric Resident, Registered Nurse and Dentist in Residency.

Here are the most surprising things I learned:

Sources: User Interviews, User Surveys, User Personas

๐Ÿฉบ Stronger together

Our users find the most comfort when struggling with their mental health in talking to others in the medical field who they can relate to.

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ Lean into physical activity

More than half of our users reported using exercise of some form as a way to easily relieve stress.

๐Ÿ˜Ÿ The stress is inherent

100% of users said their profession is a burden on their mental health because of the high-stakes nature situations they are often put in, due to the nature of the healthcare industry.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Anonymity will be crucial

Wavering mental health could lead to a medical professional being reported to the medical board by their peers. Keeping their identities a secret will be helpful in protecting them.

Mapping out early stage features with sketches ๐Ÿ“

  • Prioritizing nearby activities and ones that are happening soon to show up early on the landing page.

  • Let users filter searches when looking for activities and events

How'd we do? ๐Ÿงช

During a series of usability testing, we noticed some common confusions arise that we could expand on in order to make the website more user friendly:

Explore Page ๐Ÿ”ญ

Issue

  • Users were confused on the phrase "Upcoming Activities"
    โ€‹

The Fix

  • We improved the UX writing by changing the terminology to "Today's Activities". Upon A/B testing, we found this made it more clear that these events were for last minute bookings.

Welcome Page ๐Ÿ‘‹

Issue

  • Users were unsure what the credits would be used for when interacting with ClockOut
    โ€‹

The Fix

  • We added text both with an explanation on the welcome page, elaborating that the credits were for booking activities and sessions.

What's next for ClockOut? ๐Ÿ’ญ

  • Creating dark and light modes to increase accessibility and cater to user preferences.

  • Responsive mobile design

Key Takeaways ๐Ÿ”‘

Competitive Analysis ๐Ÿ”

User expect a login feature and messaging portal. Though a reward system is not common from our competitors and could be a delightful surprise to users!

This is where we got the inspiration to add a gamification aspect to ClockOut.

Polishing our solution with wireframes ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ

When it came time to construct the wireframes, I knew our team needed to keep a minimalist approach to the design, so the applicataion isn't overbearing the user with too much information or an overstimulating style.

How do colors affect people?

  • Color has the ability to heal and comfort (Babin, 2013)

  • Pastel colors are light, soft and calming (Babin, 2013)

  • In the medical field, certain colors are used for code of emergencies [ie: code blue, code red] (Babin, 2013)

We kept all of this in mind when selecting colors for our design system.

High Fidelity โœจ

Booking Page ๐Ÿงพ

Issue

  • It was unclear to users where a class would be located if it were to be attended in person.
    โ€‹

The Fix

  • This was rectified by adding the class's location to the page. Now users are able to see exactly where the location of an event or class is before committing to attending.

Retrospective

I learned so much about how those who guide our health journeys often suffer in silence with the stress that comes with their professions. Going forward, I hope that we can offer more solutions in tech or otherwise, that support the wonderful people who take care of us in the medicinal world.
